Our aim is to teach each boy
strategies to overcome any learning difficulty, and to develop his skills as an
independent learner.
We have to know a great deal
about each boy, his strengths and his weaknesses, his preferred learning style,
and what targets should be worked upon to bring about improvement. We need to
involve each boy in the development of his learning, and to this end, set more
tasks which should be achievable within two weeks that will enable him to
achieve the global targets set. All
this information is available to teachers on the school data management
system, so whether your son is learning History, Geography or Science,
he will be helped to achieve his remedial task, with help being available across the curriculum.
For some boys this is
insufficient to bring about rapid improvement, so they will need to attend our
Learning Development Centre (LDC) which is staffed by six Speech and Language
Therapists, a number of Literacy and Numeracy Tutors, and
Occupational Therapists to support language processing, fine motor
control and hand-writing, and those who have dyscalculia. Boys may
attend the Learning Development Centre for up to four hours each week. As a result of this, every boy in the
school is on his own individual timetable.
